Lily’s Book Review: “Celebrate” by Lauren Conrad!

Hi Lovelies,

Summer is the season of posh parties.  With warmer weather brings weddings, baby showers, outdoor birthday fiestas, brunches, engagement parties, and impromptu get togethers to soak up as much sun as possible. Most people also have more time to entertain during the summer months.  I love entertaining, creating memories and delicious dishes with friends and family.    Entertaining and party planning involves everything I like to do and write about: cooking, baking, dressing up, spending time with people I love and who love me, decorating, drinking champagne, and writing cute cards (invites and thank you’s!).

Sometimes entertaining can be an overwhelming endeavor, but thanks to Lauren Conrad’s new book, “Celebrate”, creating a Pinterest-perfect party is a fun and gorgeous process that you and your guests will love! It’s modern day party planning with timeless and essential etiquette.

Celebrate starts with a phrase that immediately caught my attention, “What does celebrate mean to you?” I started to think about all the great weddings, baby showers, and dinner parties that I have been invited to over the years and hosted myself, and all the wonderful memories and laughter that I will never forget. Celebrating to me means showing gratitude for all the wonderful things that can happen in life and sharing with loved ones. There is always a reason to celebrate.

The book is separated into two sections, Prep and Party.  The ‘Prep’ section focuses on key components of your party planning process such as the guest list, the design of the invitations, decor, and the menu. The ‘Prep’ section gives you all the tools you need to put together a great party.  It teaches you party planning in a straightforward and streamline manner.   These tips help you make all the ideas in your head into a coherent party theme that can be made into a reality.  The Prep section also includes great tips for how to stock your bar at home plus a wine guide, and recipes for drinks that are classic party pleasers such as a Manhattan, a Mint Julep, and an Old-fashioned.

One of my favorite parts of Lauren’s book is that every chapter has a section on etiquette. She helps her readers create the perfect toast, lay the proper place setting for your table, provides tips on what to bring your hostess, and even table manners that everyone should know.  It would make Emily Post proud, and I truly appreciate traditional and thoughtful manners.

The second half of the book is called ‘Party’. This section gives you incredible inspiration and direction for all the major occasions that call for celebration: weddings, birthdays, brunches, engagement parties, holiday parties, baby showers, New Year’s Eve, and even a clambake!!

In this section you will be able to create any special occasion with a menu, decor, and full bar your guests will never forget. There is even a section with suggestions on outfit choices for each event!  My favorite parts of this section are New Years’s Eve, the Moroccan Brunch, and the Wedding planning section.

This book should absolutely be on your bookshelf at home. It also makes a great housewarming gift or bridal shower gift. If you try any recipes from the book or recreate the themes please leave a comment below or tag me on Instagram (@sagebeautyblog)
