Hello My Lovelies!
When it comes to creating the perfect look, a stellar highlighting effect is a key element. The glow is the key to the glam! If you can’t see my highlighter from the other side of the Brooklyn Bridge, then I did not apply enough of it. I have been trying some fun sparkly new ways to create a luminous glow with the help of some special goodies from Becca Cosmetics. Highlighters come in shades that vary from cool silvery tones, to warm golds and bronzes, some are pinks or peachy golds, and sometimes even lavender!! They can come in the form of powders, creams, or liquids, giving lift and light to the face.
Highlighters can be applied all over the face or just on the areas that we want to bring forward, or rather to where we are bringing ‘light’. Becca makes some of my favorite highlighters and their shades are great for all skintones, but are especially brown girl friendly because of the warm undertones and extensive color range.
How We Get The Glow Going!!
There are three different ways you can get your glow going with Becca: Liquid, Pressed, or Poured.
The first way, my favorite way to highlight, is with a pressed powder product after I have already applied my foundation and blush. I currently love using the Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in Bronzed Amber which I blend with my Champagne Pop Highlighter! Your pressed powder highlighter is applied on top of your blush, directly on your cheekbones using a fantail brush. That is the best tool for applying highlighter because fantail brushes won’t pick up too much product and the slim design makes it easy to apply product down the center of the nose and the center of the forehead without depositing too much. This application technique will make your cheeks pop and brighten your blush. I also like to use a dampened eye shadow brush and apply my Bronzed Amber highlighter on my lid as an a shimmery eyeshadow! Check out the Real Techniques Fantail Brush! It’s a great tool to have in your makeup bag.
The second method to achieve a touch of glow is the Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid Highlighter and is very versatile. I love to mix it with my liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer. I suggest using a 1:1 ratio when mixing liquid products, one pump of highlighter for one pump of foundation. This will give you an all-over glow. and who doesn’t love instant luminosity? If you want to skip foundation or tinted moisturizer, (which I never recommend) you can also mix it with your day cream for a quick fresh look. In the summertime I love to mix my liquid highlighter with a body lotion to give my legs and decollate shimmer and shine.
The third method is a gentle swipe of Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured Creme Highlighter. A creamy highlighters give a soft magical glow. It makes me feel like a fairy bathing in crisp moonlight. I have two different methods for applying this product.
After I apply my skincare and my foundation primer, I apply my creme highlight on my cheeks, down the center of my face, and my cupid’s bow. Then I blend my foundation on top. This application method gives me a lit from within glow.
My second method is to apply my cream highlighter on my cheekbones then layer my powder highlighter and blush on top to intensify my highlighter and make my cheek color last even longer.
