Hi Lovelies!
As spring slowly unfolds here in New York City, I have been cleaning out my closet to make room for fun, new and fabulous additions. I have always had a robust collection of scarves in my closet. I love to buy them, knit them, and find new ways to style them with my favorite outfits. Just for the record, I am always cold and I keep warm with a cozy scarf.
Scarves are a great way to add a splash of color to your wardrobe and they are so versatile because they work all year round with a variety of looks. I have recently fallen in love with the JEM Collection. Created by the brilliant Jennifer Elizabeth Miller, each scarf is a handmade work of art that adds a chic touch to your outfit with a bohemian edge. The scarves are long and luxurious so they can work as a hood, as a tunic, or snugly wrapped around your neck. The fashion possibilities are endless.
Pink and Purple are my top two favorite colors and I always find a way to add a touch of both to whatever I’m wearing. This soft tie-dye pink goes perfectly with a classic black and white combination. When you wear a bold accessory a good way to balance your outfit is to keep the look streamlined with classic solids or neutrals. A leather jacket is a wardrobe staple that every woman needs and is appropriate for milder early spring temperatures. Skinny black jeans can be paired with heels or neatly tucked into knee-high boots. I love graphic t-shirts and this one says “Follow Your Heart” in English, French, and Spanish.
Of course I had to add a touch of purple with these Kendra Scott earrings from Rocksbox that completed the look and complimented the warm pink tones in the scarf.
Florals in spring can be fun, not frumpy when paired with a touch of vintage. This classic Betsey Johnson dress has been a treasured piece of my wardrobe for years! It reminds me of Alice in Wonderland with a 1940s flair. When I wear a floral print I pick one of the colors in the scarf as my base color for my look. This JEM collection delight is a gorgeous blend of blues, greens, purples, and white that makes my dress pop. I would also pair this pattern with a classic white top and a black pencil skirt.
I asked the designer herself what inspires her and how she started her journey in fashion and here’s what she shared:
“I’m a girl with northern roots who grew up in the south. This sounds kind of funny but I moved to DC with zero political interest but 100% interest in exploring and growing. I literally fell into fashion like Alice falling into the rabbit hole. I’ve heard of people just falling into things but it seemed completely unrealistic until it happened to me. It’s been absolutely amazing and it fills me up with so much happiness.
It’s a natural artistic medium for me – a tool of expression. My collection has many layered meanings but the overall message that I want to evoke is that my scarves make you feel good; highlights your style, your confidence, radiates the beauty that is already there and that when you walk into a room no matter where you are/what time it is/what you are doing you are absolutely mesmerizing. Just like Aubrey Hepburn once said I believe happy people are the most beautiful people.”
