Hi Lovelies,
The music and style of Amy Winehouse has always inspired and touched me. Over this past summer I had the pleasure of seeing the documentary, Amy, directed by Asif Kapaida. The film is authentic and intimate, including interviews with Amy herself, her closest friends, family members, and colleagues. She wrote about her life with unapologetic honesty and passion. She passed away four years ago at the age of twenty-seven joining the likes of Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix. She was a modern day rock goddess with the soul of a 1950s jazz singer blended with a retro pinup girl flair. So…I decided to create an Amy Winehouse-inspired Halloween look!
Amy’s signature makeup consisted of these key elements:
- A dramatic graphic cat-eye
- Well defined, full brows.
- Matte Pink Lip Color
- Soft Pink/Peachy blush
- That Beehive hair!
In order to recreate her makeup look, I used the following products:
- Makeup Forever Aqua Black cream liner
- Kat Von D Shade and Light Eye Palette.
- Kat Von D Lipstick in Ritual
- Nars blush in Amour
For this look I suggest using a foundation with a natural finish and set with a light dusting loose powder. Amy’s complexion was never too powdery. Let me note that Amy’s brows were always well-defined and full so I filled mine in as I normally do with my Anastasia Dip Brow in Ebony, but I did make them a little more intense than usual. I applied eyeshadow primer and then applied a neutral matte shadow all over my lid. I am no stranger to achieving a classic cat-eye, but Amy’s look ismore than just a basic flick. The best way to achieve the shape and depth is to start by tracing the shape with a thin black pencil as a base. After creating my base shape I used my Real Techniques Fine Liner brush to fill in my and thicken my wings with my cream liner. I then applied oodles of mascara, but to really glam up this look to rock star level apply some false lashes. I finished the look by lightly contouring my cheeks with Nars blush in Amour, and I skipped the lipliner (Amy’s look was never too perfect) and finished with my a matte pink lipstick, Ritual by Kat Von D.
Please let me know what you think of the look and if you recreate it be to share it on Instagram and tag me!
I hope you all had a fabulous, sparkly, magical Halloween weekend, and I’m looking forward to recreating more celebrity inspired looks in future blog posts.
XOXOX,
Lily
