Lily’s L.O.C Method 101 for Curly/Kinky/Natural Hair

Hello Lovelies,

I’m very excited to share this post because I love doing hair care posts.  It involves some of my favorite brands, and it is my new favorite way to pamper my naturally curly hair. I recently started doing the L.O.C method on my hair.  The LOC method stands for “Liquid, Oil, Cream.”  Here is why it’s awesome for very curly, kinky, hair that is transitioning,  or natural hair which tends to lack moisture:

  • You layer products so your hair can retain moisture for days at a time.
  • It stop breakage, prevents split ends, and keeps your curls healthy
  • You only need three products.
  • Each layer helps to seal the one after it.
  • LOC Method works well for type 4 curls.

The LOC method is three easy steps that remind me of my skincare routine. I often use a facial oil, an anti-aging serum, and then a moisturizer in my nighttime routine in order to seal moisture and repair my skin. Now I’m doing the same thing with my hair.

Step 1: The Liquid

  • Start with freshly washed and deep conditioned hair.  Towel dry and separate into sections.
  • The liquid is a water-based leave in conditioner.  I’m currently using Miss Jessie’s Leave-In Condish. I mix a small amount in a spray bottle with some water and apply to each section.   I apply it to each section throughly and gently comb through each section with a wide tooth comb.

Step 2: The Oil

  • For step two I use a blend of Coconut Oil with three drops of Castor Oil.  Castor Oil is very rich so you don’t need a lot.  Apply to each section from root to tip, paying special attention to the ends. Comb through each section with the wide tooth comb as you apply.

Step 3: The Cream

  • This step is the point at which you apply your cream product or hair butter.
  • Curly Pudding by Miss Jessie’s gives hold, controls my curls, and has Sweet Almond Oil to hydrate.
  • Apply to each section.

After you have finished all three steps you have some options for styling,  You could put your hair in a bun, you could do two strand twists, or just LOC and go and leave your to air dry.  I like to wash my hair at night so it can air dry and I don’t have to use any heat.   As with any beauty routine, there is always room to grow and experiment so as I refine my routine I will keep you updated.  I also have a few new products on my list that I’m planning on trying out soon so I will let you know how they fair.  I would love to hear what some of your favorite hair butters and leave-in products are so leave a comment or tag me on Instagram (@sagebeautyblog)

I recently tried the Miss Jessie’s Curly Pudding and I love it! One of my other favorite stylers is the Kinky Curly Original Curling Custard. It has so much slip & adds so much shine/moisture to my hair while also defining my curls! I’m definitely gonna try the LOC method for sure 🙂

Hey lady! This was an amazing post. I’m newly natural (only a month and a half post BIG CHOP) and I was doing my research before taking the plunge. One of the first methods I came across was the L.O.C method. I see that you use a liquid leave in but thus far I’ve been using the Cantu Leave-In Conditioner Repair Cream for the “L”. As for the rest of my routine, I use Trader Joe’s organic coconut oil for the “O” and for the cream I alternate between the new Lotta Body Moisturize Me Curl and Style Milk and ORS Curls Unleashed Shea Butter & Honey Curl Defining Creme. Still, not the shine level I’m looking for. Thus far, it has been working but I do feel like my hair lacks shine once it dries. Any suggestions?

P.S. I know this comment is super long lol

I’m so glad you loved the post 🙂 One of the ways I like to improve my shine factor is to use the Hair Milk Refresher Spray by Carol’s Daughter which does give shine and a boost of moisture.
      xoxo
