MATTE LIP TUTORIAL: Yes, You Need Lipliner

A fun, easy look that works during the summer months and is a great transition into fall is a well-defined matte lip. In this post I will be sharing some of my favorites for matte lipsticks and some tips to perfect your look.  I consider lip liner the most under-appreciated cosmetic product.  When it comes to lip color most of my clients have the same concern, their lip color never lasts as long as they would like, and it bleeds and fades. The best way to make sure your lipstick or lip gloss lasts is to start with a liner.  Lip Liner is awesome because it creates a base for your lip color to adhere to and it can help to intensify your lip color.

To achieve the following looks I started by exfoliating my lips with my favorite lip scrub by Bite Beauty. The Whipped Cherry Lip Scrub by Bite Beauty gently smoothes and softens the lips and makes them ready for color with Resveratrol and Cherry Oil.  When your lips are exfoliated and hydrated, just like the rest of your face, your lip color will last longer and look better.

Lip Look 1: Kat Von D Lipstick in Ritual with Soar Lipliner by MAC

This matte lip look is great for day with a soft swipe of liner and mascara, but it also compliments and helps to balance a more dramatic eye look. Soar is my favorite lip liner from MAC because it is a very versatile color that works with many of the pink lipsticks I have in my collection. Kat Von D also makes a color called Cathedral that is another great matte pink that will work on most skin tones.

Lip Look 2: Ruby Woo Lipstick by MAC with Cherry Lipliner by MAC

If you love makeup, then you probably have this iconic color in your collection. Ruby Woo is a classic matte red that works for everybody and is perfect for day and night looks. The color is rich, glamorous, and sexy.

hello!

hello!

I started by applying my Cherry lipliner all over my lip to create a solid base. Cherry is such a great color I have actually worn it alone all over my lips as a solo product when I’m in a rush. Again, I kept my eye makeup very soft with a lightly defined crease, black eye liner, and lots of mascara.

Yes, Coral

Yes, Coral

Corals are fun and bright in the summer, but are versatile because they compliment the season of fall as well.  What’s more fun than matching your lip color to the gorgeous leaves changing and the color of pumpkin spice lattes.  In this look I wore a coral blush to compliment my lips.

Lip Look 4: MAC lipstick in Heroine with MAC lipliner in Heroine.

This is the bold and daring look you have always wanted to try. This deep matte purple looks intimidating in the tube but it works for almost all skin tones and is a great alternative to the traditional evening look of dramatics eyes and nudes lips.  If you like dark lip colors this can be worn during the day with minimal blush, a classic black cat-eye, and mascara.

I can’t wait to share more great lip looks for the fall. Let me know if you try any of these looks and tag me on instagram so I can see your great work.

Stay Beautiful
