New Yorkers celebrate the end of the summer the way we celebrate everything, with glamour, passion, and parties. The month of September brings us the excitement of the U.S. Open, the scrumptious dishes of the Feast San Gennaro, and the breathtaking creativity and innovation of Fashion Week!!
This year I attended an event featuring the Hanley Spring-Summer 2016 Collection. I was transported from Manhattan to 1950s Havana, Cuba. Palm trees, champagne, gorgeous artwork, and the car of my dreams made for a perfect night.
Each piece of the collection evoked an air of warm tropical breezes and effortless style. All the pieces were easy to layer staples that could coordinate with everything you already have at home. The collection was inspired by the brand’s Creative Director Nicole Hanley’s recent trip to Havana. The color palette was a modern blend of peach, mustard, white, cocoa, and navy. What I really loved about the collection was that the clothes were a juxtaposition of island style with subtle military influences, structured but not rigid lines. Instead of a traditional runway show the models were on displays as living works of art bath in soft lighting.
During Fashion Week I always like to challenge my normal dressing routine and wear something that I feel sums my style the moment I walk into a room. I decided on a gorgeous teal ombre strapless dress by Monique LHuillier. My shoes are leopard printed gladiator platforms (yes that’s right), and my necklace is from the Shiny Mix.
During her travels, Nicole Hanley was also inspired by the artist Enrique Rottenberg. His series, “Sleeping With” is a mesmerizing photographic portrayal of hundreds of bedrooms taken all over Cuba that illustrates life in Cuba with raw honesty and humanity. His work was displayed right along side the clothes.
The Hanley Spring-Summer 2016 collection will be available on Hanleynyc.us in February 2016. If you live in New York City, then you can find these future wardrobe staples at their first boutique which will open in January 2016 on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
