Chasing Fashion: My Life As an Hourglass.

“Dressing well is a form of good manners.”

Hi Lovelies!

I’m so excited to share my fall fashion look for my first photo shoot on my blog!!  I know that many of us are getting ready for Christmas but mild fall temperatures here in New York City have afforded me the luxury of wearing my fall outfits a little bit later into the season. And besides, the Winter Solstice is December 22, so we still have a little bit of Autumn left to enjoy.

I have always loved fashion and dressing up.  I started reading Vogue at the age of seven. I would “borrow” my mom’s copy and flip through it and fall in love with all the gorgeous clothes.  Each dress seemed like a little piece of art and I wanted my Barbie dolls to wear Valentino and Chanel.

I believe that fashion is a form of self expression. No matter what your age or body type, wear whatever makes you feel beautiful and confident.

When it comes to getting dressed everyday I usually head over to my closet and get a dress and cardigan combo and build my outfit from there.  I would describe my personal style as glamorous, feminine, and colorful.

If you have an hourglass or curvy body type (like I do) then your shape is balanced with a full bust and hips, and a defined waist. A dress is comfortable, highlights the smallest part of your shape (the waist), and balances your shape.

At this point in my life I wear mostly dresses because they are easy to dress up or down, and you always look well put together. I have always had a very girly style.   The outfit pictured above is one of my favorites lately because it incorporates pieces that you can wear over and over again in neutral colors.  Here are some outfit details:

  • The Classic Camel Coat gives a dressy 70s vibe and is a neutral color so feel free to add some bold accessories like my leopard scarf.
  • Yes, you can wear white after labor day! The key is to choose seasonally appropriate fabrics and textures. A white linen skirt in the fall is a NO.  A white cashmere sweater dress or a white jersey dress in the fall is a YES.
  • I added a splash of color with bright opaque tights in dark purple to balance the soft neutrals.
  • My boots are by Jessica Simpson. I love her shoes because they are sexy, comfortable, and affordable.
